Raising awareness of mediation - Noise Action Week

Mediation North Surrey (MNS) work closely with the pollution service on noise related issues within the community of Elmbridge. We also conduct neighbourhood mediation in Runnymede and Spelthorne. Mediation helps people explore their problems and is conducted in a safe confidential manner, to reach solutions acceptable to all parties without the added anxiety and expense of legal intervention.

During last years’ Noise Action Week we were involved in “live tweeting” - raising awareness of our services and how this can help deal with noise related issues. This was a first for MNS, and our tweets were picked up and retweeted. For example, by the local police who have over 30,000 followers, so this ensured the messages went out to a large part of the community (many people call the police to deal with noise problems so this helps raise awareness of services available Ed).

We also joined the Elmbridge pollution team on their red double decker bus as it travelled around four Elmbridge Housing Trust (EHT) estates. This marked three years of a partnership in noise between the pollution service and EHT. We were joined by the police and between us we were able to give advice and information on all aspects of noise.

We had a really good turnout, the bus drew the crowds and residents were able to talk over their concerns while having a tea/coffee and biscuits. Games were provided for the children and a competition to win a fabulous digital camera donated by Sony UK. The day was a great success and we spoke to countless people about the benefits of mediation and how to access our free service. We also received three referrals.

MNS is a registered Charity
