Welcome!

Noise Action Week 2010 took place on 26-30 April. This year's event coincided with International Noise Awareness day (28 April).

Themes for Noise Action Week 2010 included:

As always, organisations around the UK held a range of fun and exciting events to raise awareness about the impact of excessive noise on communities and individuals. See our events page for more.

Noise Action Week 2010

Noise Action Week 2010 was a roaring success, with lots of events around the UK on themes including MP3 players and hearing, dogs barking, noisy neighbours, intruder alarms, licensed premises and student noise.

Activities ranged from providing information at supermarkets and shopping centres to school visits, bus tours and leaflet campaigns. Several local authorities visited universities and colleges to raise awareness about hearing and entertainment noise, while two local authorities teamed up with their local housing associations and held silent discos to raise awareness.

A full list of 2010 activities is available on our events section and all the pictures are in our Flikr gallery.

Noise Action Week 2010 attracted a good deal of media coverage in regional and national papers, on radio stations including BBC Sussex, BBC West Midlands and GTFM 107.9 and online, including several articles on the BBC website. Our press monitoring service estimated the value of print and web coverage generated by the campaign at around £200,000 - the highest ever for Noise Action Week.

Two noise surveys were released during the week - one exploring garden noise and the other noisy neighbours. The first, which was commissioned by our competition sponsor, Worx, revealed that over half of Brits are disturbed by noise in their gardens. The second, commissioned by Which? Legal Sevices, revealed that at least three million adults in Britain suffer from noisy neighbours, with loud voices and neighbours arguing found to be the most disturbing noise (58%), followed by blaring music or television (40%).

The Which? survey provided a valuable boost to public and press interest in noise during Noise Action Week and led to our Policy Officer Mary Stevens taking part in interviews on BBC Breakfast and the Radio 4 PM show.

In order to evaluate how successful Noise Action Week 2010 was for participants, we have created an online feedback survey. We are urging all those with an interest in Noise Action Week to fill out the form online at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/noiseactionweek
